Gauteng’s risky behaviour is a sign that there are bigger issues when it comes to sexual health and education.
South Africa as a whole has a massive STI crisis, however Gauteng is leading in terms of people infected and infection rate. Not only do we have an infection issue, but we have a treatment issue, because no one is getting treated for their STIs and it is developing into something else such as Aids, PID and MUS.
Granted Gauteng has a larger population than all the other provinces with 16.1 Million people. There has also been an 15% incidence rate in 2023. Meaning that STI rates have increased and show little signs of slowing down.
